释义	质力相推亦称“质力杂糅”。近代严复用语。对物质与运动关系的哲学概括。“质”，即“质点”，指物质和“物体”；“力”，指排斥力、吸引力。他认为质和力相互依存、不可分离。“大宇之内，质力相推，非质无以见力，非力无以呈质”（《译〈天演论〉自序》）。其运动形式为“翕以聚质”，“辟以散力，始简易而终杂糅”（同上）。从太阳系形成到动植之长、国种之成，“虽为物悬殊，皆循此例矣”（《天演论》导言二按语），宇宙万物的演化，都受这个质力相推法则的支配。甚至人的知觉、思维，“亦皆点力之事”（同上）。视质力相推为物质运动变化的原因，宇宙间的普遍规律，“天演最要之义”（同上）。反映了机械唯物主义倾向。
